Updated Response
Your health and safety is a priority on all trips. Each participant will be required to read and sign our participation packet and waivers before joining. The packet currently includes:
Waiver
Health disclosure
Allergy disclosure
Covid disclosure
Participation Agreement
Trips cancelled within 2 weeks of the trip start date will not be refunded. Trips cancelling 1 month (4 weeks) out may not receive a full refund. WRC may retain up to 50% to cover our non-refundable costs —permits, shuttle reservations, food purchases. We recommend all participants purchase trip insurance.
Our current recommended provider is Faye Travel Insurance.
In addition, your participation fees do not include coverage for any personal emergency expenditures that may be incurred during the trip such as doctor visits or emergency helicopter evacuation. We do carry general liability insurance and business insurance. However, participants are recommended to carry emergency coverage for the time of their trip, especially intermediate and advanced packraft trips. We recommend looking at policies from:
All participants are responsible for having their own health insurance.
Wyoming is part High Desert, part Rocky Mountains. We have temperature and weather in various parts of the state, mountains and river valleys ranging from wet and freezing to very hot and very dry year round. It is not uncommon to need warm layers in Summer the same day you needed to dress to accommodate heat. Each trip participant will receive a packing list.
Custom Raft trips range from 1/2 day trips to 3 days, 2 nights.
Intro to packrafting trips currently come in two offerings. A two day clinic on two separate rivers in the Cody area provides an opportunity for participants to get a hang of the boat and basic paddle skills on a wider, more forgiving river on day one. And experience a more remote river with larger rapids and obstacles on day two. During the clinic, participants will camp, book a hotel or vacation rental in town and be on their own for the evening.
When our permits allow, we run a 3 day 2 night option as well. This trip includes the same progression on a single river where participants backcountry camp with guides along the bank of a waterway. Evenings are spent on a mix of leisure activities, discussion about trip prep and planning and honing skills like backcountry cooking.
Intermediate packrafting trips are 3 to 4 days 2 to 3 nights and involve a healthy mix of river travel, hiking and portaging.
Advanced packrafting trips are 5-8 days depending on the location of travel and the assessed fitness of the group.
At this time we can offer trips during the season our permits allow and as water levels on that particular waterway accommodate raft or packraft travel. Many of the rivers we float will be natural flow rivers or, if dam controlled, have a season that is ideal for floating.
You can see our up to date availability for a given trip by clicking the more information button below that particular trip.
The main season we operate in will be late April – October. Late April into late May is usually when Spring runoff begins and water levels may vary from quite low and cold to quite high, fast and cold. At times we may opt not to float because of Spring runoff. Temperatures will range from very hot to very cold and even snowing in some locations throughout the season.
Some of our trips will have a per booking minimum—usually 2. We like to run packrafting clinics with at least 2 individuals. Overnight packrafting trips need at least 4 participants. However, they do not all need to come from your group. Our trips are open enrollment unless you arrange for a private group with us.
If you are looking at a packrafting or rafting trip date and do NOT want others joining, contact us prior to booking to make that arrangement.
Rafting with a guide and the 2 day packrafting clinic are appropriate for those with no previous water experience. Please be advised that if you choose packrafting, you will be responsible for navigating your own boat, and self-rescuing should you fall out of your boat. Self rescue means: keeping your wits about you, orienting yourself in the water, locating your boat, getting to it and working hard to either get back in, or get to a spot in the river where it is easier to get back in. You will need to be able to look for your guide and take instruction while potentially immersed in a cold-water environment.
Those with no camping experience are not excluded from Intro to Packrafting overnight trips. However we ask that you disclose this in your paperwork and answer all follow up questions honestly. You may be asked to watch or read additional pre-trip materials.
The best trips for those with no camping experience are:
Rafting
Intro to packrafting – 2 day clinic
Intro to packrafting – 3 day, 2 night
Yes! In fact it is encouraged. Especially if you have never really used your packraft or packrafting equipment on an expedition. Using your own equipment helps you familiarize yourself with what you actually have and how you most like to use it. A lot of times participants using their own gear begin to hone their personal systems on our trips. I.e. how your stove and cookware system all pack together, where to best fit kitchen items in your boat, whether or not your sleep systems is too bulky for your packraft, how many clothes you need and which bags you like to pack them in, what to do with your tent/if you prefer a tent that is a different size and shape.
You are more than welcome to use rental equipment or borrow a boat and pack. However, know that we have what we have and the best way to use our equipment, might not be what you are used to. If experimenting with a new system is what you are most exited about, feel free to use our equipment.
We provide a “starting at” cost for all custom raft and packraft trips. Costs will directly relate to what we are providing —lunch, shuttles etc.
All bookable trips on our calendar have a set price associated with them.
If you are interested in Packrafting – give us a call and we can put together a one day clinic for you.
If you are not looking for one on one instruction but still want to be in your own craft, you can book an inflatable kayak with our sister company, Wyoming River Trips.
If you just want to be on the water and meet new folks, but don’t care if you are the one navigating that craft or not, we also recommend Wyoming River Trips in Cody WY for a 1/2 day or Full Day rafting trip. You can peruse the options here.
We offer discounts for Group Rafting Trips that pay in full at the time of the reservation, on one credit card.
10-18 individuals – 5%
19-30 individuals – 10%
31 + individuals – 15%
Gratuity is not included on these trips unless you request it be added. We suggest a gratuity of $7-10 per person in a raft for the guide managing that raft. Or, 10-20% of the trip total divided up evenly among all the guides.
A Cooperative is defined as “an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically-controlled enterprise”
While we are not a true Co-op yet (owned by members), but this is the how we are running our business and choose to describe it. Wyoming does not have a true B- corp designation and this is our way of being a mission oriented for-profit. Currently our Cooperative is a network of like-minded individuals, businesses, communities, who work together to facilitate trips and programs that connect us humans back to our more than human world. Sometimes we run our trips directly, other times we may work with or involve an organization or educational partner to help clients meet their goals.

0. WRC highly recommends that anyone booking with us, also books travel insurance. We recommend Faye or Generali travel insurance. In the event you are unable to join us for the start or a portion of your reservation. This is the best way to make sure your trip is refundable.
1. Please understand that our trip dates and capacities are limited. When we accept your reservation, we may be turning others away from booking that trip. If you find it necessary to cancel your trip, please notify us as soon as possible. With more than 2 weeks notice, a full refund is possible but not guaranteed. WRC may retain a portion of the funds received to cover expenses incurred that are non-refundable (i.e. food, special permits, non-refundable processing fees, shuttle fees).
2. WRC reserves the right to keep up to 100% of the total trip cost if cancellation occurs less than 2 weeks before your trip start date.

4. If any guide or participant shows flu-like symptoms less than 14 days prior to the scheduled rafting or packrafting or custom trip start date, they will not be allowed to participate in their scheduled trip. WRC will try to find another guide to take their place. If another guide is not available to facilitate the trip, it will be canceled and the participants issued a full refund, less the processing fees taken by our service providers. And any non-refundable costs (i.e. food, non-refundable shuttles, etc)
5. If you book a trip, WRC reserves the right to cancel the trip if local, state or federal guidelines prohibit our business activity due to the novel coronavirus or other circumstances out of our control that may prohibit our operation on the dates of the trip or if we feel it is unsafe to facilitate the trip. All trips canceled for these reason will be given a full refund excluding processing fees taken by our service providers.
6. WRC has a zero-tolerance harassment policy. If a participant is harassing a guide or other participants, WRC has the right to remove them from the trip. There will be no refund and the participant being removed is responsible for any additional costs incurred (i.e. travel, food, hotel stays etc.)
7. WRC will notify all participants of plans to cancel a trip and discuss participant options for rescheduling as early as possible if WRC is the party responsible for initiating the cancelation.
Cancellation because of party size

Cancellation due to health concerns or ability to participate fully

People of different fitness levels and abilities are welcome, pending an advance discussion of all anticipated needs or special requirements and WRC’s sole determination they and their guides have the ability to meet those needs at the time of the desired trip and provide adequate equipment and the same level of risk mitigation available to our other clients.
